Good morning, Cookeville.
August evenings have two soundtracks this week. At the fairgrounds, the midway lights come on beside engines, animals, and arena contests. Across town Monday, folding chairs will face the Dogwood Park pavilion while Community Band plays into the evening.
In today's Cookeville Scoop:
Three practical nights at the 100th Putnam County Fair
Thursday's voting hours and Wednesday's job-search help
A Monday pizza-and-arcade bundle plus half-price games Tuesday
Community Band on the lawn and four library stops across the county
Let's get into it.

TO DOS
Make your Thursday Election Day plan. Putnam County polls will be open Thursday, Aug. 6, from 9 AM to 7 PM. Early voting has ended, so use the county's precinct and sample-ballot links or look up your location through GoVoteTN. Bring a Tennessee or federal government-issued photo ID. A college photo ID does not qualify.
Get That Job! with Goodwill Career Solutions. Wednesday from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Putnam County Library Cookeville branch, Elizabeth Felipe will offer job-search assistance and practical guidance for finding, applying for, and securing a job. The listing does not state a price or registration requirement. See the library calendar.

RESTAURANTS
The Slice Pizza and Games has two useful weekday deals. Monday's $30 Funday package includes a large one-topping pizza, up to five soft drinks, cheesy breadsticks, and a $20 arcade card. The price is plus tax and cannot be combined with another discount. Tuesday, most arcade games are half price all day, excluding merchandise games such as crane games. The Slice is open 11 AM to 9 PM at 408 W Jackson Street, Suite C. Check the current specials.

THREE NIGHTS AT THE 100TH PUTNAM COUNTY FAIR
The Putnam County Fair is marking 100 years of tradition, but its weekday stretch is not a quiet lap around the midway. Monday through Wednesday each has its own mix of engines, animals, contests, and stage time.
The practical details stay simple. Gates and buildings at the old fairgrounds, 155 Veterans Drive, open at 4 PM. Admission is $5 each night. The midway runs from 6 to 11 PM, with $25 armbands sold from 6 to 10 PM. Single midway tickets are $1, and the fair says most rides take three to five tickets.
Monday puts the Jump & Run in the Main Arena and the Wild Horse & Mule Show in the East Arena, both at 6:30 PM. Greased pig catching rounds out the Big Barn schedule.
Tuesday starts motorcycle practice at 5 PM and racing at 6 PM in the Main Arena. Roping practice fills the East Arena, the dairy cow show begins at 6 PM in the Big Barn, and the Music Barn hosts a cornhole tournament at 6 PM.
Wednesday brings another motorcycle-racing night, again with 5 PM practice and a 6 PM start. The East Arena has a barrel clinic at 6 PM, Peachtree Learning Center takes the Wilson Stage at 7 PM, and the Big Barn hosts another greased pig catching contest.
Choose Monday for the widest animal-and-arena mix, Tuesday for racing with dairy cows and cornhole, or Wednesday for motorcycles, barrels, and a stage performance. The constants are friendly: same address, same $5 gate, and three chances to catch the midway after work. Open the official 2026 fair schedule.

HAPPENINGS
Here are five more ways to use the first half of the week without making the calendar feel like a competitive event.
Cookeville Community Band Concert. Monday from 7:30 to 9 PM at Dogwood Performance Pavilion, 43 N Walnut Avenue. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for a range of musical selections in the park. Admission is free. If weather or another concern forces a cancellation, the city says the concert may move to the following Monday. See the city listing.
Lunch and Learn: The library's monarch waystation. Monday from noon to 1 PM at the Cookeville branch. Library horticulturist Michael Hafner will explain how he created the monarch waystation by the entrance and share his experience beautifying the building. No admission price or registration requirement is listed. Browse the Cookeville branch calendar.
Club de Lectura en Español. Monday from 6 to 7 PM at the Cookeville branch. This first meeting is specifically for Spanish speakers and will discuss Kristin Hannah's Las mujeres de la guerra. No admission price or registration requirement is listed. See the library calendar.
Crafternoon or Maker Tuesday. Baxter's monthly Crafternoon welcomes all ages Tuesday from 11 AM to 1 PM at 101 Elmore Town Road. Algood's Maker Tuesday runs from 12:30 to 4:30 PM at 125 Fourth Avenue, where local artist Holly Arms will lead a clothespin-frog project. Supplies are included at both; no admission prices are listed. Compare the two craft stops.
Scrabble Club. Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 PM at the Cookeville branch. Teens and adults ages 13 and older can play or learn the game at this weekly club. No admission price or registration requirement is listed, and triple-word-score confidence is optional. Check the event listing.
If this issue gave you one useful plan, forward it to the fair-going friend, job seeker, Spanish-speaking reader, gardener, maker, or word-game person who needs it. Know about a restaurant opening, church event, class, fundraiser, or small local story we should catch next? Reply and send it my way. Good tips beat another spin on the rumor midway.
Thank you for spending part of Monday with me. I hope the week gives you one good night out and at least one reason to keep the folding chair in the car. Remember the photo ID Thursday, and save me a midway light or two. 🧡
