I put the FunFest chair back in the closet this morning. The square is quiet. The library is not, and I will take dogs in the AC over another day of folding chairs in this heat. Tuesday is already looking like 93.

Social Line Dancing is this afternoon at Cane Creek. Mondays run 12:30 to 3:30 PM at Cane Creek Recreation Center, 180 C C Camp Road. Everyone is welcome and no experience is required. It is a $5 drop-in if you want to move after a weekend on the square. See the listing.

Beginner pickleball clinics are Tuesday at Cane Creek Gym. Morning is 9 AM to 12 PM, and there is an evening session 6 to 9 PM. Indoor gym and outdoor courts, weather permitting. Registration is required, and a walk-up price is not posted. Tuesday's high is 93, so the gym is the smarter room. See the clinics.

Start the new Tai Chi session Wednesday. The next 4-week block at Cane Creek Recreation Center is Sept 16 through Oct 7, Wednesdays 4 to 5 PM. Teddy Spivey teaches it. Low-impact, all ages, $32 for the session. Register if you want the first class this week. Register here or see the class page.

Crawdaddy's at 53 W Broad Street is back to the weekday drink board. Today Tito's Handmade Vodka is $4.99 from 11 AM to 10 PM. Tuesday every draft is half price. Wednesday is Aperol Spritz. Same rotation as last week, new days, cold glass. See the current specials.

Cookeville Pizza & Pub is doing Classic Mondays: $3 off all 10-inch Classic pizzas all day. Happy hour is still 2 to 5 PM every day, with $5 snacks (Prince Stix, Cheesy Cheese Bread, Pepperoni Puffs, Little Jimmies) and a beer token if you buy a pint. See the Pub.

The bounce houses are gone. The next gathering is quieter, and it has dogs.

At noon today, Jennifer Hutchinson-Tracy from the Cookeville-Putnam County Animal Shelter brings a Lunch and Learn to the Cookeville library at 50 E Broad Street. It runs 12 to 1 PM. It is free. The library listing is simple: meet a furry friend, learn what makes the shelter tick, and what you can do to help.

I do not have a posted list of which dogs will walk through the door. Show up if you want the conversation more than a specific name. Downtown workers, that is a lunch hour.

Thursday the shelter closed for a deep clean after several recent arrivals tested positive for parvo, WSMV reported. That was Thursday. Today's program is still on the library calendar, and the shelter itself is posted open Monday 12 to 5 at 2650 Gainesboro Grade.

If the library hour makes you want a longer visit, that is the address. Appointments are recommended: 931-526-3647. Dogs five months and older are $170, cash or check, and that includes spay or neuter, vaccines, a microchip, and a heartworm test for dogs six months and up.

Davy Jones is the overlooked pup this week (more on him below). He may or may not be the one at noon. Either way, the library is the indoor plan on a week that is already climbing toward 93.

Tennessee Tech rolled past Samford 45-19 on Saturday at Tucker Stadium. Holloway had four touchdowns. The Golden Eagles are 3-0 after the first Southern Conference home game. Saturday is the only regular-season bye. Next game is Sept 26 at Wofford.

Three-and-oh, then a week off. Even eagles nap.

Davy Jones is the most overlooked dog of the week at the Cookeville-Putnam County Animal Shelter, per CPCAS Instagram. He is a 1-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix who arrived as a stray. Posted facts: affectionate, sweet, loyal, gentle, can be playful, believed likely housetrained, low energy with occasional zoomies. He likes to chase tennis balls and does not like to bring them back. He walks nicely on a leash.
