Good morning, Cookeville.

One day it's 73 degrees and breezy. The next, there's a tornado watch. And the morning after that — this morning — the high is 38 with a chance of snow flurries. Welcome to spring in Tennessee.

If you made it through Sunday night without too much drama, we hope you're staying warm today. Spring break starts right now for Putnam County families and TTU students, and the library has a full day of free programming lined up. Tonight: a very cool, very intimate acoustic music event inside a downtown bookshop that you'll want to know about.

In today's Cookeville Scoop:

  • A songwriters round at Plenty Downtown Bookshop tonight — only 50 seats

  • Free art, free Legos, and a free lunch at the Putnam County Library

  • Drake's Irish menu is in its last week — don't miss the Big Arse Reuben

Let's get to it.

RESTAURANTS

Drake's St. Patrick's Day menu is in its final week — running through March 22, which means this is genuinely the last stretch to try the Big Arse Reuben Sandwich and the Paddy Melt Burger. (Those names aren't going anywhere, but the menu is.) A fun, low-key way to get into the spirit this week, and a solid lunch or dinner option on a cold spring break Monday. Full menu at drakescomeplay.com

The Putnam Room runs happy hour 3–5 PM on weekdays — a warm, historic downtown spot if you're looking to land somewhere cozy this afternoon. They're open Tuesday through Friday 11 AM–9 PM and Saturday 4–10 PM. [VERIFY: Monday hours — confirm they're open today before heading in. If Monday hours aren't available, remove this item.]

A BOOKSHOP BECOMES A LISTENING ROOM TONIGHT

There's something genuinely special happening at Plenty Downtown Bookshop tonight, and we wanted to make sure you knew about it before the day got away from you.

Starting at 6:30 PM, Plenty is hosting Booked & Unplugged: A Night of Acoustic Stories Between the Shelves — and the concept is worth pausing on. It's modeled after the Bluebird Cafe format in Nashville, which means the songwriters aren't just performing. They're sitting in a circle, taking turns, and telling you the story behind each song — the moment it came from, the person it was written for, the line that almost didn't make it in. If you've ever been to a Bluebird-style round, you know it's a completely different kind of music experience. If you haven't, tonight is a good introduction.

The performers are Lucas McCoy, Alice Nelson, Patrick McCormic, and Sugar Lime Blue, hosted by Raniece. Four original voices, one room, a bookshop full of stories on the shelves and stories in the songs.

The room holds 50 people. That's not a typo — fifty. And that intimacy is exactly the point. This isn't a bar show with ambient noise and someone half-listening in the back. When a Bluebird-style round works the way it's supposed to, the whole room gets quiet, and the songwriter fills it. You're close enough to see the expression on their face when they play the line that means the most to them.

It's the kind of evening that tends to stick with you — the kind of Monday night out that doesn't feel like a Monday at all.

Tickets are $15. You can buy them in person at Plenty Downtown Bookshop (39 W Spring St) or send $15 via Venmo to @plentybookshop with "booked and unplugged" in the note. Doors at 6:30 PM, showtime shortly after.
